Houston has a rich sports culture. From NFL football to NBA basketball, from the NHL to the MLS, there’s an abundance of sporting events for Houstonians to attend. Let’s look at some of the teams and have been up to lately.
Houston Texans
The Texans have had a great start this season, going 3-1 straight out of the gate. The main critique is that the team is not aggressive enough on offense, but their defense has been fantastic as usual.They have the 13th ranked defense in the league, which is a welcome relief to fans who have seen lackluster defenses in years past.
Houston Rockets
The Rockets are in the midst of their season. After a slow start, they’ve been playing reasonably well and heating up as of late. They’ve looked stronger at five on five offense, but their defense has had issues they should note. They expect to make a trade before the deadline for an interior defender who can handle opposing bigs on D and clean up bad plays from Ryan Anderson and Trevor Ariza, who have struggled to contain opposing teams’ bigs on D.
Houston Dynamo
The Dynamo have had a rough start, looking like the team that struggled last season. They have played better recently and need a response to their play. The Dynamo will look for some wins to stay amongst the Western Conference contenders, but they will not be making any trades.
Houston Dash
The Dash will have a tough time with the NWSL season so far. They’re last on the table, and it doesn’t look like they’ll be picking up much ground in the upcoming weeks. Their offense is struggling as well as their defense, so for fans of the Houston Dash, it’s best to stay patient and see what happens.
Round Rock Express
The AA affiliate of the Houston Astros has been playing well so far in the season. Their pitching has been strong, holding opponents to 2.86 runs per game, and their offense has been good as well, putting up 4.46 runs per game. The only issue has been their bullpen, but they hope to fix that.
The Texas Stars
This season, the Texas Stars are off to a good start in the AHL, currently sitting in 4th place in the Pacific Division with 30 points. They’ve had a great defense lately and have relied on it heavily to help them win games this season. Their offense is terrible but could improve upon better shooting percentages and get better chances.
Houston has a wealth of sports to offer. There’s plenty for people to cheer for in Houston from football, baseball, basketball, and hockey. The teams look to be in good hands as the season progress.
